When researching ideas for my first exercise, I came across this interesting video on Vimeo about a project the Daniel Meadows and Martin Parr collaborated on during their student days and was used by the BBC back in the early 1970’s, June Street (1973).
The project was to meet and photograph the people living in June Street, Salford, Manchester before the residence left to make way for the demolition of the street for new development. June Street had apparently been used for early episodes of Coronation street and Meadows and Parr wanted to see how the real life June Street compared to its television alter-ego. Meadows and Parr had to develop a relationship with the residence in order to get access to their homes and photograph them in their living rooms. This images are now historical documents recounting how people lived and their sense of style.
