For Assignment 3.
You suggested that I research Pablo Picasso, to see if he produced an artist manifesto for his cubism period (if there is one).
The immediate response to your image is Picasso – to quickly get to grips with where he was coming from a manifesto would be ideal.
For assignment 4.
You confirmed that my research was on the right path. You also advised to limit my reading to just three or four essays / writings that are most relevant and to be sure that some of the case studies include relevant photographs/photographic practice.
The word count will be surprisingly quickly used up. It’s vital to stick to your point(s) and not attempt general histories or arguments.
You thought that Jo Spence’s, Facing up to myself, (1978) was a good choice to study as part of my research for assignment four.
Really good.
For Assignment 5 & 6.
I suggested that I may use Polaroid photographs in my last assignment. You suggested that I research Ernest Wilhelm “Wim” Wenders, a German filmmaker, playwright, author and photographer who is popularly known for his use of Polaroid pictures.
Worth also looking at work done by fellow Self and Other OCA student, Matthew Lewis.
You also advised that given the current pandemic situation, it was best to keep this in mind when planning the project and if considering photographing others. You reminded me that the important thing is that the work for the assignment meets the brief and the criteria.
As noted in many feedback sessions, the pandemic is our context.
I hope to be back in touch soon with my next completed assignment (4).
